Answer

One of the main sources of water pollution is the improper disposal of motor oil. Did you know that 1 quart of oil can contaminate up to 250,000 gallons of water? Enough water to supply a small community. Another big problem is accidental oil spills in the ocean when petroleum companies are drilling or transporting crude around the world. These adversely impact our ecosystem in countless ways.

The process of converting crude oil into a lubricant is extremely harmful to the environment. Crude oil gets heated to about 700º F, breaking down into a mixture of hot vapor and liquid that is pumped into a fractionating tower. Most of the gases produced by this separation process go out directly in to the air that we breathe.
